After having a decent breakfast, we were ready for an adventure. Right on time at 10am we were greeted by our guide for the Arctic nature tour. He told us what our plan was for the day, how the weather will be and what we can expect. The guide made a good job in making a relaxed atmosphere and everybody could just focus on what’s about to be explored.
We went to the island of Kvaløya and drove from the east to the west through the central part. Along the way we came across typical old Norwegian houses, villages, settlements, small islands, big fjords, mountain passes, peaks and even a beach, which is probably not a place that you would imagine in the far north of Norway. Have you ever been to a beach covered in snow? It’s just surreal.
The guide knows the island and the area well. He talked about the nature, the fauna and flora, the harsh life conditions the people have here in the winter months and very interesting stories about secluded communities, whales and so much more.
He is also prepared for everything, shielded with an armour of knowledge against all kinds of questions. Are you cold? No problem, he has thermal boots and thermal suits for everybody. Did you forget your tripod? He got you covered. Getting hungry? No worries, a picknick is planned with sandwiches, hot tea and delicious hot chocolate! Want some great photos that you can send to your friends and family back home? You will have them. The guide was a fantastic photographer.
All in all, this was a complete and very pleasant tour that showed us the tough winter up here in the north. It’s an awesome tour to do during the day, the guide was superb and super informative. We can highly recommend this tour!
