We set off, full of optimism now that we are warm.

We met the captain of the catamaran in the centrally located and picturesque city harbour. He welcomed us on his boat proudly. Everything was already prepared for us in advance and the boat was ready to go. It was a very cold day with -11 °C and a brisk wind. We were worried that this would be a freezing nightmare, but once we entered the cosy and warm saloon of the catamaran with a panoramic view all our worries were blown away by the fresh wind. In addition, we were offered each a thermal suit, which worked just perfectly outside the saloon. The day was saved.

Leaving Tromsø behind. View from the inside of the catamaran.

Once we were a fair distance from the harbour the tour really begun. In the newly acquired thermal suits we were brave enough to set foot outside of the saloon and face the North. As most catamarans are, this one is also equipped with trampolines, the squared nets in the front of the vessel. It’s meant to let water through in stormy conditions to prevent the boat from capsizing. We used it mainly as a hammock to relax and to enjoy the view on the snowy mountains. It was a surreal experience to be able to enjoy that in -11 °C, but the suits made it possible.

Enjoying the trampolines of the catamaran on the way out of the harbour.

Not long after it was time for the real deal, the fish. Once the captain was happy with a spot, we were given the fishing rods and an explanation of how to do it, how to approach it. He had obviously decades of experience with fishing, which made it so much easier for us. Joachim’s last time fishing was years ago and for Max it was the first time having a fishing rod in his hands. The captain noticed, gave the right tips and had an easy answer for every question.  We changed positions whenever the captain sensed there could be more fish somewhere else. And it totally paid off. We got a fish!

It’s the perfect day tour for fishing and we highly recommend to do that, since fishing is just part of the life here up in the North. The whole trip went smooth. The catamaran is a beautiful modern vessel with a cosy and warm saloon. We had access to the whole boat, could make hot drinks whenever we felt like having one and we could choose between relaxing in the trampolines of the catamaran, warm up inside or fishing the whole time. The fishing gear worked perfectly. The captain was very helpful, experienced and a great cook. And he even prepared and cooked for us a wonderful fish soup at the end of the tour with the fish we caught! Everything was professional and they delivered!

HOW DO WE DO IT? We try them out

Having the experience of the tour by ourselves is vital to our concept. Crucial to us is communication, customer service, authenticity and the fun factor. If deemed as a suitable tour, we write an article about it in our blog, where we share with our guests why it’s great, why we choose this tour and what they can expect. Those providers are then regarded by us as Provider of Excellence.
