Assuming you are staying in the city, you will leave the island of Tromsø and drive along your first fjord of the day – Ramfjord. From there you will drive through the stunning valley of Breivikeidet towards the next fjord called Ullsfjord, which you will cross on a ferry. The ferry ride is gorgeous and offers incredible views of the whole fjord and towards the Lyngen Alps. The sight is spectacular. Once on the other side you will drive through the Lyngen Alps to the other side to Aurora Spirit. The journey itself is worth the time.

The view from the ferry into Ullsfjord.

Then it’s time for the guided tour through the distillery. We won’t spoil you everything now, but you can expect to be shown pretty much everything. The guide knows his stuff well and he has one or two facts about the distillery that will probably surprise you. You will be explained everything about the process of manufacturing the various spirits they have, a lot about the Viking mythology and how it influenced their spirits.

You will also be taken to their famous Viking inspired cask storage longhouse and you will have the opportunity to taste their unique spirits!

Part of the whole tour is also a lunch from local produce, which is served after the guided tour through the distillery and the tasting. We are sure that the meal itself is pretty good, but after the tasting it was just on point for us.

You also have enough time just to enjoy the views with some coffee or with some of their spirits. There is a whole bar equipped with their finest bottles and an experienced bartender, who makes one of the best drinks above the Arctic Circle.

The lunch was on point after the tasting, especially with those views.

And that’s the tour. After that it’s again slowly time to return back to Tromsø and reflect on the experience and the views. This tour is a unique one in almost every way possible and full of superlatives. The northernmost distillery in the world, spirits made from glacial meltwater, bottles stored in old bunkers, casks stored in a Viking longhouse, award-winning spirits on a global stage and all from a distillery you have probably never heard of.

Due to the amazing location, the beautiful journey towards the premises, the fantastic experience and the uniqueness of this place we highly recommend this tour. And to all the whiskey-loving enthusiasts – this is a must!
